About the Academy Awards
The Academy Awards, also known as The Oscars are held every year to honor achievements in film. The awards ceremony is one of the most highly anticipated television events each year. Throughout the world people hold Oscar parties and cheer on their favorite films, actors and actresses. Winning an Oscar is highly prestigious; it is considered the pinnacle of achievement in the film industry. The first Academy Awards covered films created in 1927 and 1928. They were held on May 16, 1929, at a private dinner at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, California.
