About National Brotherhood & Sisterhood Week
National Brotherhood & Sisterhood Week was created by the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter in 1978. The week is inspired by the courage, compassion and unselfish perseverance of our forebears to religious freedom and the necessity to accept all faiths, without prejudice or exclusion for a society to remain democratic and free. The decision to celebrate Brotherhood/Sisterhood Week near Washington's Birthday called attention to George Washington as a symbol of America's commitment to freedom from racial and religious prejudice.
