National Adoption Exchange Day is a service run by the The Adoption Register. The Adoption Register works with adoption agencies and adoption consortia to make sure that all children and families have the best chance of finding a suitable match. Its main purpose is to find adoptive homes for those children for whom Local Authorities cannot find a home locally.

Adoption Exchange Day in the United Kingdom is for approved prospective adopters looking for a child and Adoption Agencies who are family finding. The concept was developed by Berkshire Adoption Advisory Service in 2000 to promote the placement of children for whom adoption is the plan quickly. These events are now held by many agencies throughout England & Wales. The Adoption Register works in conjunction with many Local Authorities and Voluntary Adoption Agencies.

Exchange days tend to feature children who have been waiting for a lengthy period or who are likely to prove more difficult to find a family for. At events organized by the Adoption Register for England & Wales we are unlikely to feature single, white children under the age of three years who have no special need.
