About the Hindu Day of Ganga Saptami
Ganga-saptami or Jahnu-saptami is a Hindu observance that occurs on the 7th day of the Hindu Month of Vaisakha during the 1st Quarter Moon. According to the Hindu faith, after the Hindu god Ganga descended into the Himalayas, the river entered the sacrificial arena of the Hindu god Jahnu Rsi. This event disrupted Ganga’s meditation and he was swallowed by Jahnu in anger and dispelled through his ear. By this happening, Ganga became known as Jahnavi which translates to a descendant of Jahnu.
