About the Hindu Observance of Kumbha Sankranti
Kumbha Sankranti marks the beginning of the eleventh month in Hindu Solar Calendar. During this time, the faithful make offerings to cows, an animal highly revered within the Hindu faith. Once the offering is complete, worshipers bathe in Ganges if it is close by. This ritual is most prominent in Triveni where Ganga and Yamuna rivers converge. The union is considered highly auspicious.
In South India Sankranti is called as Sankramanam.
