About Maha Shiva Ratri
Maha Shivaratri is a Hindu festival celebrated every year in honor of Lord Shiva on the 13th night/14th day of the month of Phalgun in the Hindu Calendar. It typically occurs in February or March.
The festival is principally celebrated by offerings of Bael or Bilva leaves to Lord Shiva, a day long fast and an all-night-long vigil for the purpose of gaining boons during the practice of Yoga and meditation. The goal of meditation in order to reach life's highest good steadily and swiftly. Lord Shiva worshipping (Puja) in the temples often involves the full rites, traditional and ancient rites with the use of mantra, tantra, kriyas, mudras, and abhishekam.
