About Marmot Day
In the lower 48 we celebrate Groundhog Day. In Alaska it is known as Marmot Day, (which is actually part of the same family). Marmots are charismatic sciurid rodents about the size of your house cat and are native to the Northern Hemisphere. Marmots are often hunted for their fur and meat, which is a delicacy in some areas of the world. The town of Owosso Michigan also has a Marmot Day which occurs in July.
