About Meditation Month
National Meditation Month each May is sponsored by Touching Earth, a Chicago based yoga and meditation oasis. The purpose of this month is to raise awareness of the importance of meditation for mental and physical health, as well as the benefits it brings. In celebration of this month, people are encouraged to take a time out, sit somewhere quiet and simply focus and listen.
Benefits of meditation when combined with yoga include:
Alleviating suffering
Relieving stress
Lowering blood pressure
Lowering heart rate
Reducing the production of harmful stress hormones, including cortisol
