About Oglethorpe Day

James Edward Oglethorpe (December 22, 1696–June 30, 1785) was a British general, Member of Parliament, philanthropist, and founder of the colony of Georgia. Oglethorpe Day celebrates the founding of Georgia on February 12, 1733, most specifically the city of Savannah.
