About National Pancake Week
Preparation for Lent, the 40 days leading up to Easter traditionally involved purging one’s kitchen of all rich and dairy foods like milk, butter and eggs. Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday) and Pancake Week evolved from this tradition as pancakes are made with butter, milk, eggs and flour. It always occurs during the seven days leading up to the first day of Lent, which is Ash Wednesday.
