About the Hindu Holiday Ratha Saptami

Ratha Saptami worships the sun god Surya and marks the transition from winter to spring thus initiating the harvesting season. Indian farmers celebrate it as the official beginning of the New Year. The festival is celebrated in homes and at temples.

Surya temples exist throughout India. The most prominent is the World Heritage Site of the Konarak Sun Temple located in Konark, Orissa.
