About Raynaud Scleroderma Awareness Month in the United Kingdom
Observed in the United Kingdom by wearing gloves for the day, the mission of the Raynaud's & Scleroderma Awareness Month is to provide educational and emotional support for people with Raynaud's and scleroderma and their families and raise funds to eventually find a cure.

Sometime during the late 1850's a young French girl of 27 years noticed that the fingers of both hands had suddenly become pale and cold. Over the next few weeks the tips of some of her fingers shriveled up and turned black, causing her great pain and discomfort. The doctor who attended her was an equally young man called Maurice Raynaud.

The condition is like the veins strangling the blood supply to extremities asphyxiating hands, feet, toes and fingers and causing them to ‘die’ due to lack of blood. Inevitably, the condition came to be known as Raynaud's Disease or simply Raynaud's. Dr. Raynaud died young at the age of 47 in 1881 but his work identifying the disease and looking for a cure continue.
