About Records & Information Management Month
National Records and Information Management Month was created in 2002 by general consensus among Records and Information Management (RIM) professionals to raise awareness and promote best practices in records and information management. Throughout the month various businesses in the field conduct a PR push to emphasize the importance of organizing and maintaining records in of course- electronic format, but also paper, magnetic and microfilm as well.
The basic principles of RIM are:
1. Accountability
2. Integrity: uniform policies for documentation, storage and retrieval.
3. Protection: Administrative, Physical and Technology
4. Compliance: With applicable laws and organizational policies.
5. Availability: Identify, locate and retrieve records as needed.
6. Retention- Conforms with legal, regulatory, fiscal, operational and historical requirements.
7. Disposition: Securely destroy
8. Transparency
