Today's Featured Event is Spunky Old Broads Day
We have no idea where this holiday came from, perhaps the Red Hat Society? Perhaps simply a group of friends getting together for cocktails, but if you’re over 50 and female, this is your day!

Of course the term ‘old’ is debatable. Fifty is only old if you’re under 40!

What does spunky mean? The word was first used in 1786 and according to Webster’s, it describes a person whom is courageous, with attitude, high-spirited and energetic. The word “Broad” was first used in 1659 though not to refer to a woman. This use appeared in English slang during the early 20th century and was often used as a derogatory term for common women of the lower classes. In the context used for Spunky Old Broads Day, it’s meant to be cheeky and defiant.
