White Cane Safety Week in Canada is more than one event and includes the Canadian Vision Impaired Curling Championship, and countless local activities. Founded in 2006,White Cane Safety Week seeks give people with vision loss a distinctive and unique perspective before governments and assist those dealing with the ongoing effects of vision loss by encouraging active living and rehabilitation through peer support and social and recreational activities. It also seeks to conserve sight, create a close relationship with the sighted community and provide employment opportunities.
