About the Winter Olympics

Olympic Games have existed since 776 BC, however they took a very long vacation beginning in 393 AD when Theodosius I, a Christian Emperor, abolished the Games because of their pagan influences.

Pierre de Coubertin of France revived the games in 1896 where at the Panathenaic stadium in Athens Greece 14 nations and 241 athletes who competed in 43 events. In 2014 the Winter Olympics (held every 4 years) are occurring in Sochi Russia.
