About the Israeli Holiday of Yom HaAtzma'ut
Today is the anniversary of the founding of the Nation State of Israel known as Israeli Independence Day, Yom HaAtzma'ut in Hebrew, or the 5th Iyar. It marks the day in the Jewish calendar that Israel became a state in 1948. This is a secular holiday, not a religious one. Not all persons of the Jewish faith celebrate Yom HaAtzma'ut.
