About Yuan Xiao Lantern Festival in China
The Yuan Xiao Lantern Festival dates back to 100 BC and is one of the more colorful events in China and it always occurs fifteen days after the Chinese New Year, (usually in February or early March.
Celebrations include family reunions, eating yuan xiao, which are stuffed rice balls, fireworks, sparing with lantern riddles, performing folk dances, and releasing lanterns into the night air. The Lantern Festival is the first celebration of spring.
