About Time to Talk Day
Time To Talk Day is about teaching teens how to and young adults what a healthy relationship is and how to avoid ending up in an abusive relationship. It’s also about knowing how to protect yourself so you don’t become a victim.
The event began in 2006 and receives substantial media and celebrity coverage and exposure as well as corporate support. The idea of this day is to get teens, parents and influencers talking about this issue.
Dating and Domestic Violence against teens and young adults is an ongoing problem.
a) Nearly 1.5 million high school students nationwide experience physical abuse from a dating partner in a single year.
b) One in three adolescents in the U.S. is a victim of physical, sexual, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner, a figure that far exceeds rates of other types of youth violence.
c) One in 10 high school students has been purposefully hit, slapped or physically hurt by a boyfriend or girlfriend.
d) One quarter of high school girls have been victims of physical or sexual abuse.
e) Approximately 70% of college students say they have been sexually coerced.
