About National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week
Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week occurs during the first full week of May and runs concurrent with National Anxiety & Depression Awareness Week. The Thursday of this week is set aside as National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day. Both events are sponsored by NAMI: National Alliance on Mental Illness.
NAMI's Child and Adolescent Action Center (CAAC) works to improve the lives of children, youth and young adults impacted by mental illness and their families. CAAC offers resources and technical assistance to families, child-serving professionals and youth and young adults. CAAC advocates for early identification of emerging mental illness and early intervention, along with a full array of effective services and supports in every state and community across the country. Multiple resources are available on the site to assist with childhood depression. http://www.nami.org/template.cfm?section=Child_and_Adolescent_Action_Center
NAMI also sponsors an online community for children and young adults. StrengthofUs.org is designed to inspire young adults impacted by mental health issues to think positive, stay strong and achieve their goals through peer support and resource sharing. You must create a free account and log in to the site to see all the content available to logged-in users only, including stuff posted by other young adult users.
