About National Coeliac Awareness Week in the United Kingdom

"Coeliac disease is a lifelong autoimmune disease caused by intolerance to gluten. One percent of the UK population has this condition. Symptoms include bloating, diarrhoea, nausea, gas, constipation, tiredness, headaches, sudden or unexpected weight loss, hair loss and anaemia. Once diagnosed, it is treated by following a gluten-free diet for life

Dermatitis herpetiformis is the skin manisfestation of coeliac disease.

Coeliac Disease Awareness Week in the United Kingdom focuses on lifestyle and smart food choices such as gluten free bread, crackers, cereal, pasta and rolls. Aside from raising awareness with friends and family, Coeliac UK works with supermarkets, dietitians and schools to increase the availability of gluten-free food. Participating supermarkets get the Gluten-free Guarantee insignia. The Insignia means that store or chain has at least eight core gluten-free items.
